I love my boyfriend, I see the man he is as the man I could spend the rest of my life with. If you follow me on instagram, you certainly know that he is my best friend, my partner in crime, and the person that most supports and encourages me in my life, and probably are annoyed of all my posts with him. That being said he has certainly been my greatest supporter on decision to join the Peace Corps. I could not be anymore thankful to have his support and encouragement.
You see the beauty to me of having a boyfriend while on this journey is that it reminds me that I have someone to turn to. Someone to be brutally honest with me when I need it.
Will a long distance relationship while in the Peace Corps serving on the other side of the world be a challenge? Abso-freakin-lutely. Nothing great in this world comes easy right? LDR's can make you or break you, and the truth is that i have not heard of too many relationships working out. But of course every couple makes their reasoning as to why they will work out, and here is mine, because I have faith that I as well as he will make an effort. An effort is key. The moment one stops making the effort, you might as well save you both time and data credits and move on.
You can begin your journey by having your long distance starter kit! My kit includes the following! And so far it has proven to be a great starter kit!
!. Pictures of BAE
2. Pictures with BAE
3. Method of communication with BAE
4. Wear every day object that reminds you of BAE (bracelet, necklace, etc)
5. Book that reminds you of BAE
6. Letters of Encouragement from BAE
7. BAE's stuffed animal
8. BAE's shirt (not pictured)
9. The Couples app available in the App store for Thumbkisses
10. Most importantly, Keep their Smile and Laugh close to your heart for those rainy days.
This of course is my kit, yours could vary, but the kit alone will not do the trick! It also takes as stated before, effort. Along with that you communication, honesty, patience, and of course you need to be EXTRA loving to one another. Try to avoid fights and arguments as much as possible, but also do not keep things in. if you are hurting sincerely, express it. If your relationship is strong your partner will be willing to talk it out. And most importantly, never let one another fall asleep upset. You will both make promises to one another. And it is important for both of you to always remember those promises. For me, I promised to be patient, loving, and to keep in contact as much as possible! There WILL be times that you must remind yourselves of what you promised when times get tough. Call each other out on it if needed. If I am not being loving enough, I need to know it. If you are having a crappy say, just give your partner a call, and just the calmness of their voice will be sure to bring things around. I have been extra homesick lately, but just a 5 minute phone call with my boy and life is all good!
Take things from those letters of love and encouragement as your motivations to keep going. My boyfriend is pretty awesome so of course I am going to tell you what phases keep me going.
Phrase A: "I promise to always push you to be the best you can be!"
Phrase B: "Now the next two years won't be easy, but nothing worth your while is ever easy. We will get through this and our love will only grow"
You have taken on the LDR Challenge! Good Luck on your Journey and wish me luck on mine! Although I think I won't need it because Jess and I are pretty damn awesome <3
