It’s Sunday, usually I get to sleep in until 9am on Sundays, of course that was my plan. 7:45am knock on my door. Time for breakfast. As I brush my teeth my host mother is attempting to talk to me telling me to get ready for the wedding. Wedding? What are you talking about, well apparently at 9:30am there is a wedding for her niece. Okay awesome, but I still need to shower and I have no clean comfortable clothes. Oh no problem, I shall figure it out. I struggle to put myself together wearing the only clean clothes I could find which of course was a long thick dress and a blazer. Awesome I mean its only about 90 Degrees outside and it is an outdoor wedding. Well here we go, the walk to the wedding with my host sisters was about a 4 minute walk in which I managed to sweat off my most of my makeup. Upon arrival the awkward moment of who is this foreigner began, but I was warmly greeted by those who already knew who I was. I was not so sure what to expect I was freaking out because I though I was heading to a Muslim wedding and I did not want to wear a hijab. Well folks, it was not a Muslim wedding, it was a full blown Traditional Indonesian Wedding. The bridal party without hijabs and showing their shoulders, what was going on? I did not recognize a good amount of people, everyone was so dolled up! They served my favorite Indonesian desert so I was a happy girl. Es Campur is the bomb.com. It sort of felt like a wedding out in the rancho in Mexico with the moms cooking out back or in the kitchen and just a bunch of randomness, I would have loved to hang out in the back with the cooking if it wasn't so hot! Oh come take a photo with the bride and groom, I tried to be sly and act like I did not understand, but of course she quickly came to find me. So there I am trying to remember what the words for congratulations on your wedding were. I just stuck to saying congratulations and you look beautiful to play it safe! People started leaving so I thought that this was the right time to exit, had to head home and do laundry! Turns out it was time to leave because it was almost call to prayer, but this was only the lunch reception, the party will start up again at 6pm. Well headed back, did laundry, and napped. It hit 6 and I waited for my host mom to start getting ready. But, seems like we can’t party here instead of going back we all took naps. This my kind of fam! The wedding was beautiful though that’s for sure! And very, very different than anything I have even seen.
