Staging Staging, and more staging! As some of you may by now know I have been accepted into the Peace Corps. I should actually already be in Indonesia, but they Indoed us before we even left LA.
We are now at a hotel in Los Angeles and will be undergoing an extended staging. What was supposed to be a one day staging can now possibly become a week long staging. What is staging you ask? Well staging is essentially when all the volunteers get together to figure out logistics for departure, as well as over view and get to know what our goals in the Peace Corps will be and what the Peace Corps will expect from us. More importantly, for you to get to meet your new family. The volunteers we are meeting here at staging will be the closest things to home that we take with us. We have been doing different activities, and I am excited to see what they have in store for us.

No. Peace corps is not the military. Although I have read that back in the day Peace Corps volunteers would undergo boot camp similar to what the Army boot camp would be. Good thing that was back in the day, because holy crap am I out of shape! But all in all in my opinion the Peace Corps is an amazing organization with a beautiful mission.
So what is the Peace Corps? Well according mostly to Wikipedia, "Peace corps is a volunteer organization run by the United States Government" The stated mission of the Peace Corps includes" A. Providing technical assistance B. Helping people outside the United States to understand American culture C. Helping Americans to understand the cultures of other countries. Peace Corps Act (Pub.L. 87–293). The act declares the program's purpose as follows: To promote world peace and friendship through a Peace Corps, which shall make available to interested countries and areas men and women of the United States qualified for service abroad and willing to serve, under conditions of hardship if necessary, to help the peoples of such countries and areas in meeting their needs for trained manpower. "From 1961 to 2015, nearly 220,000 Americans have joined the Peace Corps and served in 140 counties," Will you be the next? Follow the link below for more facts on the Peace Corps!
